St. Matilda Institution Virtual Tour

The St. Matilda Insitution and Rehabilitation Hospital began life at a location close to New Orleans, LA. St. Matilda's current facility has operated as a seperate Crane Pharmaceutical facility since the 1930s and has now taken on the prestigous name of its New Orleans sister complex, following water damge incurred to the original New Orleans facility during the hurricane season of 2010. St. Matilda's main building is a victorian complex of the well respected Kirkbride design, as many asylums of its time. The whole facility is comprised of many buildings and an extensive grounds complex, including a reservoir, agricultural lands and stretches of woods. The site is host to many species of wildlife and plants, and offers a relaxing and restorative environment for our patients. Below you will find a small virtual tour of our facility buildings, as well useful facility maps and notes.

Our Facility is comprised of the following specialised, state of the art buildings, and points of interest:

  1. Brideston Crane Medical.
  2. The Kirkbride Complex.
  3. The Occupational Buildings.
  4. Staff Facilities.
  5. The Grounds.
  6. The Chapel.
  7. The Brideston Theatre.

The St. Matilda Insitution houses its own on-site medical facilities within a purpose built building on our grounds. Named for the illustrious founders of Crane Pharmaceutical, the Brideston Crane Medical building has been in operation since the late 1940s and boasts advanced facilities for the care of physical ailments, emergencies and illnesses. The facility is equipped to handle both routine check-up procedures and medical emergiencies as well as catering to long-term ailments requiring hospitalisation or outpatient care. Brideston Crane Medical also boasts one of the most advanced toxicology labs on the Eastern Seaboard.

The Kirkbride complex makes up the majority of St. Matilda's main mental institution building, wherin are housed our patient wards and dormitories, our psychiatric offices and facilities, many recreation rooms, the Brideston Theatre, an outdoor swimming pool for the summer months, and our outpatient suites. The building itself is modelled on the popular Kirkbride asylum architecture and floorplan of the day, and remains a historical gem and a picturesque retreat from the stress of the outside world.
